Daily Yopp! 2.10.17 - Find an Action Group!

Sorry I missed yesterday's Yopp! I had a a few relatively minor things going on in my own life that took priority. That's going to happen from time to time. Actually I did do a Yopp! It was just a very subtle one called, "If You Are Going to Do Activism for the Long Haul, Take Care of Your Own Needs First." Really more of a performance art piece than a written essay. You might have missed it. ;)

Alrighty then...so the topic of today's Yopp! is Find an Action Group! On Sunday, February 12th, I'll be holding a meeting of my neighborhood-based activist group Justice Scouts of Maxwell Park as will many other chapters of the umbrella group Solidarity Sundays. Solidarity Sundays is one of many grassroots networks of action groups that are springing up around the nation. Many groups have been inspired by the tactics/strategies laid out in the Indivisible Guide.

This spontaneous uprising of political action groups that are organized at the local level is generally seen as our greatest strength. Robert Reich recently posted an interesting article about this grassroots movement on his blog: It Takes a Movement

So...if you are already connected to a grassroots based action group, raise your hand, reach over your shoulder, and pat yourself on the back. And attend the next meeting if you are able to.

If you are not yet connected, here are just a smattering of resources that can help you find one:

Groups Registered with Indivisible
Groups Affiliated with Solidarity Sundays
Links to Issue/Topic Focused Groups
Meetup's Current List of Political Activist Meetings
Taking Action: A Google Doc with Various Resources and Organizations
The Nation: Your Guide to the Sprawling New Anti-Trump Resistance Movement
(If you know of other resources, please let me know and I'll add them to this list.)

So there you go. Your marching orders are to find a group that meets in person and attend its next meeting. Once you're there, I'm sure you'll find plenty of camaraderie and opportunity for action.

Yours in Solidarity!
