Daily Yopp! 2.22.17 - Final Stand with Standing Rock

This is a bit of a rush Yopp! as I have a BIG meeting to prepare for tomorrow. More on that later. At any rate, as per Michael Moore's suggestion that we each call our MoCs every day, here's something to Yopp! about.

So back in December, the protesters against the the Dakota Access Pipeline project (aka Standing Rock, NoDAPL) scored a victory when the work on the pipeline was halted due. Even then, many of us felt like it would come back into play later on, and as expected, here we are again.

Today is the official eviction day for the "water protectors" and you can expect it to be all the terrible things that our government can do. In 1973, Lakota/Sioux activists staged an occupation of a town near Wounded Knee in a famous standoff whose impact is still felt today. I believe that Standing Rock is this generation's "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee."

Direct Action is scheduled for today. Essentially, today is a battle day for this ongoing conflict.

What can you do?

Call your MoCs and let them know that you Stand with Standing Rock. Ask them to make a statement of solidarity with the protesters and demand that Trump's ongoing conflicts of interest as they relate to this project be investigated.

SCRIPT: Hello, I am a constituent of [Senator/Representative __________] and I am calling to say that I am in support of the protesters at Standing Rock. I would like my representative to make a public statement about his/her position on this issue so the voters know where she/he stands. I also am deeply concerned about President Trump's possible investments in this project which may have influenced his actions. The United States has broken nearly every treaty it has ever made with the indigenous people of this land. We need to end this history of violence.
