Daily Yopp! 1.20.17 - Take the Oath!

Whether you choose to watch it or not, sometime after 11:30 eastern time, Donald Trump will be saying the following words:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
The oath to support and defend the Constitution is one that is also taken by all members of Congress, federal judges, and military personnel, as well as other folks. Perhaps some of you have taken it.

While no government structure is perfect, the US Constitution has proven to be one of the best.

Today, let each of us take our own oath to support and defend the Constitution. Donald Trump may take the office of the President today, but he does not have a monopoly on loyalty to our Constitution. We have a long hard fight in front of us, but one thing we know for sure is that we are on the side of what is right.

There are a few different websites that will allow you to publicly declare your oath. My favorite is the wall-of-us. The ACLU has also set up a The People's Oath where you can customize the oath. If you'd just prefer to do it on your own, then raise your hand and say these words:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

If you are in need of further distraction/action, there has been a idea bouncing around the Internet about lowering the ratings for the Inauguration by tuning into something else (rather than just turning off the TV). I'm not sure if it will actually work, but it can't hurt.

If taking an oath and watching the Food Network doesn't do it for you, then check out this website: 10 Acts of Resistance on Inauguration Day.

Lastly, don't forget to get to bed early if you are marching on Saturday.

Yours in solidarity.
